Leaving a gift in your Will

Gifts in Wills can have a huge impact on charities like ours, while enabling your values to live on.

After you have provided for your loved ones, remembering us in your Will helps fund vital projects which are working hard to restore, replenish and protect our rivers and wetlands, now and for the future.

Our vision is of riverscapes which enable native wildlife to thrive and which people will enjoy and value for generations to come. A simple gift in your Will can help us achieve this.

Already have a Will?

If you've already made a Will and you wish to include a gift to WSRT, you might be able to add an amendment so that you don't have to rewrite it. Talk to a qualified professional like a solicitor about this.

Not made a Will yet?

Making your Will is the best way to ensure your wishes are carried out after you die. It may well be simpler than you think.

What to do next…

Firstly, decide what type of gift is right for you. There are two main options, which mean you can leave a gift large or small, as a defined amount or as a percentage of your total estate value.

  • A percentage of your estate (a residuary legacy)

This is a percentage of what remains of your estate after all other gifts and expenses have been paid. Adding a percentage of your estate means your gift remains in proportion to what you want to leave to family and friends.

  • A specific sum (a pecuniary legacy)

This is a gift of a set amount of money.

Talk to your solicitor

You can discuss your Will, and the type of gift you might like to leave to WSRT, with your solicitor. They will then be able to set it up for you. The value of your gift to us can be deducted from your estate before Inheritance Tax is applied, so it could reduce the amount of tax paid.
