Our Future-Proof Playground project will improve the outdoor space at Fittleworth Primary School, creating the first climate resilient playground in West Sussex.
Working closely with school staff and students, this project will focus on using the school playground to adapt to climate change, encourage the school to ‘embrace the rain, shade the sun’, demonstrate sustainable water management and safeguard nature recovery. It will also improve education, play and sporting opportunities for all the children at the school.
Specialist Landscape Architects Robert Bray Associates have drawn up designs and we are aiming for construction in autumn 2024 once planning permission has been obtained.
When finished this playground will hopefully inspire others across the country to follow suit.
A huge thank you to the Fittleworth community for their generosity in donating towards the design costs of this project. £200,000 for construction has been secured from the Community Infrastructure Levy thanks to the South Downs National Park Authority.
