Come and celebrate the awesome River Ems, our unique and rare chalk river.
Discover our amazing freshwater life, from Cased caddisflies - fascinating insects that spend the first, and longest stage of their life cycle living underwater in our rivers - to the incredible European eel who travels 5,000 miles from the Sargasso Sea (near Bermuda) to the River Ems.
Fun activities for all the family including:
Make a river
Wildlife table
Barn owl pellets dissection
Wildlife quiz
Tree trail
Scavenger hunt
Guided Walk
And lots more!
You can also meet members of the Brook Meadow Conservation Group and the Western Sussex Rivers Trust, including our Water Champion for Schools and Young People, Volunteer and Citizen Science Coordinator and Chalk Stream Resilience Officer for the Ems & Hambrook. Come and ask us about rivers and find out how we can all do our bit to help our rivers thrive for wildlife and humans alike.
You’ll also have the opportunity to share your views and aspirations of how we as a community can work together to enable this precious chalk river to be climate resilient and reverse the loss of biodiversity. There will be the chance to have your say through completing a feedback form.
This is a joint event with the Western Sussex Rivers Trust working in partnership with Brook Meadow Conservation Group. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
